APEC's first project area covers 748,000 hectares in Cagayan Basin. Petroleum Service Contract No. 48 was awarded by DOE to APEC in February 2005 over the main Cagayan Basin.

Numerous oil and gas seeps occur in the basin and of the 32 wells drilled there 15 had varying degrees of oil and/or gas shows. Four wells actually flowed gas to surface on DST and one is presently producing one million cubic feet of gas per day to power a 3-megawatt power plant.

Under the Norwegian-sponsored (through CCOP) Philippine Petroleum Resource Assessment (PhilPRA) project of the DOE, the basin was estimated to have a petroleum resource of 400 million barrels of oil equivalent.

Geothermal

APEC also ventured into geothermal energy. A Geothermal Service Cobntract was granted to the Company on September 24, 2008. the service area is located in  Batong Buhay, Kalinga (26,250 hectares). Power generation potential of the area 120-200 MW, respectively.

APEC is in the process of inviting joint venture partners to explore and develop the area.
